Camp Harbor View
Boston Harbor Islands, MA

Working in concert with Mayor Menino’s office, a local philanthropist commissioned RDLA to design a 12-acre Boys and Girls Club recreation facility on one of Boston’s harbor islands. His vision was to enable disadvantaged children to spend their summer days doing sports and guided activities rather than hanging out in tough urban environments. RDLA prepared the design and construction documents for tennis and basketball courts, a softball diamond, athletic fields, camp building, new roads etc. The project presented two unique challenges: all the building materials had to be barged in because the bridges could not sustain the load; and the site itself had to be raised two feet above flood zone. Construction of this first phase was completed in June 2007, and RDLA is currently designing a pool facility and amphitheater.
