Freedom Memorial Cemetery

Location
Town of Plymouth

With Plymouth’s active cemetery nearing capacity, RDLA developed a master plan for a 37-acre wooded property to provide long-term burial capacity while preserving the site’s natural character. Inspired by the 19th-century Rural Cemetery Movement, the plan uses the property’s rolling topography, mature woodlands, and existing landscape to create a peaceful, park-like setting for remembrance. The design integrates new interment areas with accessible circulation, landscape improvements, and facilities to support long-term cemetery operations.

The first three-acre phase is designed to accommodate approximately 25 years of future interment needs while offering a range of burial and memorial options. These include traditional and lawn-crypt burials, a dedicated veterans section, cremation areas, a scattering garden, and columbaria. Careful grading, planting, and preservation of existing woodland create a dignified and enduring landscape that can evolve incrementally as Plymouth’s needs change.
