Working in collaboration with CRJA Landscape Architects, RDLA helped rehabilitate this DCR trail to improve accessibility and the visitor experience while protecting sensitive natural resources along the Charles River. The design balances recreational use with ecological stewardship, creating a durable trail system that responds carefully to changing upland and wetland conditions.

In upland areas, permeable stabilized stone dust provides a durable walking and cycling surface while allowing stormwater to infiltrate naturally and reducing runoff to the river. Where the trail crosses wetlands and vernal pools, elevated boardwalks supported on helical piles minimize disturbance to sensitive soils, vegetation, and habitat.

The result is a resilient trail that expands opportunities for walking, cycling, and experiencing the landscape while respecting the ecological systems that define the corridor.
