Belvidere Plaza serves as an important urban gateway to a Northeastern University residence and a welcoming gathering space within Boston’s dense Back Bay neighborhood. RDLA was retained to revitalize the existing plaza, transforming an expansive, predominantly brick-paved space into a more inviting and comfortable environment for students, residents, and visitors.
RDLA’s design refurbished the existing planters with new plantings, irrigation, and improved drainage, while introducing benches, tables, and umbrellas to create a variety of comfortable seating areas. These improvements help break down the scale and monotony of the existing brick paving, adding greenery, shade, and opportunities for gathering. The result is a more vibrant and functional plaza that strengthens the pedestrian experience and creates a welcoming transition to the Northeastern University campus.
